Cortical anchorage
A conventional implant waits for the bone to fuse with it. This approach relies from day one on mechanical grip in the hard outer layer of the jaw, which is why bone grafting is usually not planned.

THE NAME BEHIND THE METHOD
He developed the corticobasal approach the Implant72 protocol is built on: anchoring implants in the hard cortical bone of the jaw and loading the teeth within a few days. Who he is, what he argues for and where the method is disputed, with sources.

ABOUT
Stefan Ihde was born in Germany in 1962 and studied dentistry at the University of Würzburg. His professor title comes from guest and honorary posts: the University of Pécs in Hungary (2009) and Jaipur Dental College in India (since 2019). He does not hold a permanent university chair. He now chairs the board of the International Implant Foundation in Munich. Most of the biography below comes from his own websites; the items confirmed by independent sources are linked at the end of the page.
His CV on ihde.com1988
Completed his dental doctorate in Würzburg and started work as a dentist in the German armed forces.
1989
Took over Dr. Ihde Dental, the company his father founded in 1954, and moved it into implant manufacturing.
1994
Opened his first clinic in Switzerland.
1996
Began working with laterally inserted basal (disk, BOI) implants. His 2004 Springer book comes from this period.
2006
Started work on the Strategic Implant®. The same year he became head of the implant faculty at the International Implant Foundation (until 2018).
2018-2021
The foundation published its consensus papers on corticobasal implants.

In Ihde's writing the aim is to finish placement and the fixed teeth in one visit within two to three days. The three-day Implant72 protocol comes from this.
Germany's scientific dental societies do not recommend these implant types and say the evidence base is insufficient. We cover where the evidence is strong and where it is weak in a separate guide below.
BOOKS
His book with a major publisher is Principles of BOI, published by Springer in 2004. The others appear on his own publication list. PubMed indexes 29 of his papers; his own site counts more than 150, including journals PubMed does not index.

THE METHOD
These pages set out what the method is, how it differs from a conventional implant, and where the evidence is strong and where it is thin, with the sources.

HOW IT CONNECTS TO IMPLANT72
The Implant72 protocol is based on the corticobasal approach Ihde describes. The treatment is carried out by surgeons trained in the method, not by Ihde himself. The form tells you whether your case is suitable.
