Implant Brands
Which country are Medentika implants from?
Germany, Hügelsheim; in the Straumann Group since 2013. Its main business, though, is top parts that fit other brands' implants
You may come across the Medentika name in two different places: on the implant itself, or on the top part fitted to another brand's implant. The second is more common. So the real question of this page is not 'which country' but 'is the part in my mouth original or compatible, and what difference does that make'.
Short answer
Medentika is a German company: it was founded in Hügelsheim in 2005. Switzerland-based Straumann bought 51 per cent of the company in 2013 and took over management control from the beginning of 2017; today Medentika is one of the Straumann Group's brands. The company both manufactures its own titanium implants (such as Microcone, Quattrocone and Procone) and sells top parts compatible with the implants of many brands such as Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Astra Tech, Osstem and MIS. Independent reviews show that original top parts fit better in laboratory tests.

Who Medentika is, and how it is linked to Straumann
Medentika was founded in 2005 in the town of Hügelsheim in Germany. According to Straumann's announcement in 2013, the company consisted of two separate legal entities: Medentika GmbH and Medentika Implant GmbH. At the time it had 37 employees, its 2012 revenue was about 11 million euros, and most of this revenue came from prosthetic parts. Its own implant, meanwhile, was mentioned in the announcement as a 'recently established' business.
Ownership changed in two steps. In October 2013 Straumann signed an agreement to buy 51 per cent of each of the two Medentika companies for a total of 32 million euros. In November 2016 the parties agreed to bring forward the management control originally provided for November 2017; from 1 January 2017 Straumann consolidated Medentika fully into its financial statements. The same announcement said that the founding partners would continue to play an active role in the company.
This is why the answer to the question of which country has two layers: its origin and head office are in Germany, its control is with the Swiss Straumann Group. Straumann positions Medentika together with its more affordable 'value segment' brands such as Neodent and Anthogyr. When checked in October 2026, the address medentika.de redirected to Straumann's website; Medentika products are sold in Straumann's online shop among the group's brands.
What sets Medentika apart from the other implant brands is its main business. The 2013 announcements by Straumann and by the legal adviser describe the company as a firm that produces affordable prosthetic parts for most of the leading implant and CAD/CAM systems: ready-made, patient-specific and titanium base top parts. This allows a dental technician to buy parts for implants of different brands from the same supplier.
This compatibility list is long. The Medentika catalogue in the Straumann shop has separate series of parts for Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Dentsply's Astra Tech, Ankylos and XiVE systems, ZimVie (Biomet 3i and Zimmer), BioHorizons and Camlog, MIS, MegaGen AnyRidge, Osstem TS, Dentium, Neodent, Neoss, BEGO, Bredent and Anthogyr. Each series is named with a letter code; for example L-Series for Straumann Bone Level, and F-Series for Nobel Biocare's conical connections.
It has its own implants too. The same catalogue lists IPS-Series top parts for Medentika's Microcone, Quattrocone and Quattrocone30 implants, and C-Series for Procone. There are few published studies carried out with these implants. A retrospective study in which a team from Istanbul University placed 102 Medentika Microcone implants in 72 patients together with sinus floor elevation reports a significant gain of bone inside the sinus at six months. But what was measured is bone gain; not whether the implant stays in the mouth for many years.
The real reader question is most often this: my implant is another brand, its top part is Medentika; is that a problem? The scientific picture draws a clear line. A 2018 review that examined 16 laboratory studies and 653 top parts found that the implant manufacturer's own parts and the third-party parts it has approved gave better results in mechanical strength, seal and marginal fit than parts produced merely as 'compatible'. Another review, from 2022, that examined 40 studies also writes that original parts fit better, leak less, rotate less and are more resistant to fatigue; and that in some systems with an external connection, compatible parts can come close to the original.
Almost all of these studies were carried out in the laboratory; a long-term patient study showing how compatible parts behave in the mouth over the years is missing. In other words, saying 'a compatible part is bound to cause problems' and saying 'it makes no difference at all' would both go beyond the evidence. The authors of the review write that the current clinical recommendation is to use original parts. With the one-piece corticobasal implants used in our protocol of fixed teeth in 72 hours with the Ihde method, this question works differently: because the body and the upper section are one piece, there is no separate top part connection.
When a compatible top part is reasonable, and when it is not
The points below are not specific to Medentika; they look at every situation in which another firm's compatible part is used instead of the implant manufacturer's own part.
When it fits
- If the part's series and the system it fits are clearly statedMedentika parts are divided into lettered series according to which implant system they fit. If the record gives the implant's brand and line together with the part's series, finding the right replacement later on becomes easier.
- If an original part cannot be foundWith an old system, or one that has been withdrawn from the market, an original part may not be available. In that case a compatible part can be a reasonable way of keeping a working implant in place.
- If there is already a Medentika implant in the mouthIf you have Microcone, Quattrocone or Procone, using a part from the same manufacturer's own series means an original part for that implant.
- If the choice is made with an explanation to youIf your dentist openly discusses the difference between an original and a compatible part, the price and the later repairs, the decision is an informed one.
When it doesn't
- If you are not told that the part is a compatible oneIf the record gives only the implant's brand and does not mention that the top part is another firm's product, the dentist who works in that mouth later on may proceed with the wrong part and the wrong tightening value.
- If price is the only reason in systems with an internal connectionThe 2022 review writes that compatible parts in systems with an external connection may be associated with fewer severe fractures than those in systems with an internal connection. If price is the only reason with an internal-connection implant, discuss this openly.
- If there is advanced bone resorptionThis is a problem that comes before the question of parts. If there is no volume left to anchor in, a conventional implant often needs a graft or a sinus procedure first; a different class of implant that uses the hard outer layer of the bone should also be discussed.
- If a screw keeps coming looseIf the same screw comes loose all the time, the fit between the part and the implant, the bite load and the source of the part should be examined together. Brushing the problem aside by tightening the same part again usually leads to a repeat.
Five questions to ask if the top part is going to be Medentika
All of these questions have a short, clear answer. If the answers are put on record, another dentist's job will be easier years from now.
- 1
Which brand and line is the implant, and which is the top part?
These are two separate pieces of information. The card should give the implant's brand, line, diameter and length together with the top part's manufacturer and series.
- 2
Why not an original part?
The reason may be that the part cannot be found, the need for a patient-specific design, or cost. You have a right to know which it is.
- 3
Does this affect the implant manufacturer's warranty terms?
Ask the clinic whether the implant manufacturer's warranty programme, if there is one, still applies when a compatible part is used; get the answer in writing.
- 4
To what value was the screw tightened?
Ask to what value, and according to which manufacturer's instructions, the screw was tightened. Having this information on record matters for the dentist who will undo and retighten the screw later on.
- 5
Can I see the barcode on the label?
Medical devices put on the market in Turkey must be registered in the Product Tracking System (ÜTS). The number on the label of both the implant and the top part shows its manufacturer and its registration.
Things that make more difference than the choice of part
If the points below are in place, the difference between parts shrinks; if they are not, no part makes up for the gap.
A complete record
The implant's brand, line, diameter, length and lot number; the top part's manufacturer, series and tightening value. If you have this information, another dentist can pick up the work where it was left off.
Adjusting the bite
A bridge that does not spread the load evenly produces screw loosening and fracture even if the part is original. The time given to the bite on the day the teeth are delivered can make more difference than the source of the part.
Maintenance and check-ups
Inflammation around an implant progresses without causing pain. The only thing that catches it early is regular check-ups and professional cleaning.
A plan based on a CBCT scan
The number, position and angle of the implants are decided on a three-dimensional image. No top part fully corrects an implant placed at a poor angle.
If the loss extends to more than one tooth
If you are missing several teeth, or you have been told there is not enough bone, you can send us the panoramic X-ray or CBCT scan you have through the form. The dentist who will carry out the treatment reads the image, and we will write to you within 24 hours. This is a preliminary assessment; the final decision is made after an examination and a CBCT scan.
What often gets mixed up about Medentika
Being a group company and producing parts for other brands produces a few misleading shortcuts online.
"Medentika is the same as Straumann"
It is a brand of the same group, but a separate company with separate products. Even Straumann, in its announcement, counts Medentika among its value segment brands. A Medentika part fitted to a Straumann implant is not Straumann's own part.
"A compatible part is exactly the same as the original"
Independent reviews show that in the laboratory original parts fit better, leak less and rotate less. The difference is not the same size in every system, but saying 'exactly the same' does not match the evidence.
"A compatible part will inevitably make you lose the implant"
There is no long-term patient study showing this. Most of the evidence is laboratory measurements. The effect of a compatible part can vary with the system's connection type and the quality of the part.
"Medentika is not an implant brand"
Although its main business is prosthetic parts, the company has its own titanium implants: Microcone, Quattrocone, Quattrocone30 and Procone. If you have one of these in your mouth, Medentika is the original manufacturer of that implant.
What you should have for an implant whose top part is Medentika
With a compatible part, the record matters even more than with an original part: because the dentist who looks at it later on may look at the implant's brand and assume the wrong part.
An implant card with two lines
On one line the implant (brand, line, diameter, length, lot), on the other the top part (Medentika, series name, product number). The two should be written separately.
Copies of the barcodes
The barcode on the label of both the implant and the top part. These are the numbers that identify the product in ÜTS; keep them together with your card.
The tightening value
The value to which the top part's screw was tightened. When the screw comes loose, another dentist using the right value depends on this record.
The X-ray from the first day
The X-ray that shows what the bone level and the seating of the part on the implant were like at the start. Years later, a comparison can only be made with this X-ray.
Don't wait if
- If a tooth moves or a screw feels loose. Carrying on chewing with a loose screw can break the screw. Tightening a screw early is a small job; removing a broken one is laborious.
- If the same tooth comes loose again and again. Repeated loosening can be a sign of a problem with the fit of the part or with the bite load. Say so, and ask for the source of the part to be examined as well.
- If there is bleeding, swelling or a bad smell around the implant. Inflammation around an implant often progresses without causing pain. Caught early, it can be stopped; regaining bone that has been lost is much harder. If the swelling is spreading quickly, is accompanied by a fever, or swallowing and breathing become difficult, do not wait: call 112 or go to the nearest A&E department.
- If you do not know whose product the top part is. Call the clinic that carried out the treatment and ask for your record. Even if the implant can be identified on an X-ray, whether the top part is original or compatible cannot always be told from the X-ray.
How a compatible part shows up in the quote
Medentika's position, in Straumann's words, is affordable prosthetic parts. The total, though, is made up of these items:
- The source of the top part
- There may be a difference between an original part and a compatible part. Check whether the quote states the manufacturer of the top part.
- A ready-made part or a patient-specific design
- The difference between a ready-made top part and a part designed and produced for the patient can be greater than the difference between original and compatible.
- The prosthesis and laboratory work
- In full-mouth plans, the material and workmanship of the bridgework make up most of the total.
- Later repairs
- If the record of the part is incomplete, a small screw change years later may require extra X-rays and time to find the right part.
Frequently asked questions
Which country is Medentika from?
Germany. Medentika was founded in Hügelsheim in 2005. Its control, however, is with the Switzerland-based Straumann Group.
Is Medentika owned by Straumann?
It is a Straumann Group brand. Straumann bought 51 per cent of the company in 2013, took over management control from the beginning of 2017 and consolidated Medentika fully into its financial statements. But Medentika and Straumann are separate brands; their products and parts are separate too.
Does Medentika make implants or top parts?
Both. Its main business is ready-made, patient-specific and titanium base top parts compatible with many implant brands. Alongside this it also has its own implants, called Microcone, Quattrocone, Quattrocone30 and Procone.
Can my implant be Straumann and its top part Medentika?
It can; Medentika produces separate series of parts for Straumann implants. In that case the top part is not Straumann's own part but a compatible one. Your card should give the manufacturer of the implant and of the top part separately.
Is there a difference between an original part and a compatible part?
According to independent reviews that combine laboratory studies, original parts generally fit better, leak less and are more resistant to fatigue. A long-term patient study, however, is missing; so it is not known for certain how large the difference becomes in the mouth.
Are Medentika implants any good?
They are the products of a manufacturer that belongs to the Straumann Group. But there are few published clinical studies carried out with Medentika implants, and those that exist are short-term. The outcome is determined more strongly by planning, load distribution, smoking, diabetes control and maintenance than by the brand.
How can I tell that a Medentika part is original?
A Medentika part is Medentika's original product; but it is not an original part for another brand's implant. Ask to see the barcode on the label of the part used: medical devices put on the market in Turkey must be registered in the Product Tracking System, and that number shows the manufacturer.
Do you use Medentika?
Our protocol of fixed teeth in 72 hours works with one-piece corticobasal implants; because the body and the upper section are one piece, there is no separate top part connection. This is not an assessment of conventional two-piece systems; if there is enough bone and time to wait, they are a sensible choice too. Which one suits you is shown by a CBCT scan.
