Implant Brands

Which country are SIN implants from?

Brazil, São Paulo; part of the American Henry Schein group since 2023

SIN is less well known in Turkey, but it is one of Brazil's large implant manufacturers. Its name often appears on its own in a quote: 'SIN implant'. Yet the same line is made with more than one connection type, and if that detail is not written down, the information that will help you far more than the country name when looking for parts years from now is missing.

Short answer

SIN is a Brazilian brand: S.I.N. Implant System was founded in São Paulo in 2003, and its factory is also in São Paulo. Under a deal announced in 2023, the company passed from Southern Cross Group, an investment fund focused on Latin America, to the American dental products company Henry Schein, and joined the group's implant business. Epikut, Unitite, Strong SW, Tryon and Lite are this company's implant lines.

Who SIN is, and what its lines are

S.I.N. Implant System was founded in 2003 in the Brazilian city of São Paulo and built its entire business around implants: implant bodies, prosthetic parts and surgical kits. The factory shown as its headquarters on the company's own website is also in São Paulo. According to Henry Schein's announcement, SIN's 2022 sales were around 61 million dollars, and the company was focused on developing affordable implants.

Ownership changed in 2023. Henry Schein announced that it had signed a definitive agreement to buy SIN from Southern Cross Group, an independent investment fund focused on Latin America; the price of the deal was not disclosed in the announcement. The acquisition was completed in July 2023. Henry Schein had been serving dentists in Brazil since 2014. SIN joined the company's global oral reconstruction group alongside BioHorizons, Camlog, Biotech Dental and medentis medical.

So the question of which country it is from has a two-layered answer. The product's origin, design and manufacture are Brazilian; the group that owns the company is American. Just like Neodent: it is also a Brazilian manufacturer, and today a brand of the Swiss Straumann group. Two Brazilian brands, two different owners.

These are the main lines listed on SIN's website. Epikut, as the manufacturer describes it, is the line with progressive cutting threads promoted for immediate loading, low-density bone and extraction sockets. Unitite is the line with narrow and short options called Slim and Compact, offered with a hydroxyapatite-coated surface called HAnano. Strong SW, recommended for every bone density with a hybrid design made up of a cylindrical body and a tapered tip, is the family with the widest range of options. Tryon is presented as the classic line; Lite is a simplified option. Zygomatic implants and guided surgery kits are also part of the product range.

The detail to watch with SIN is that the same line is made with more than one connection. Strong SW comes with three separate connections: the conical connection known in Brazil as 'Cone Morse' (CM), the external hex (HE) and the internal hex (HI). Epikut and Tryon come in CM and HE; Lite is offered with an 11.5-degree Cone Morse and an external hex option. So even a card that says 'Strong SW' is incomplete if it does not give the connection letters.

On the surface side, two options stand out: a surface roughened by double acid etching (DAA), and the surface the manufacturer calls 'Plus' or HAnano, which carries a very thin layer of hydroxyapatite. The manufacturer says this surface makes osseointegration easier. Because the same line, with the same connection and a different surface, means two separate product codes, this information should also go on the record.

When looking at the publications, one detail helps. The study published in 2026 comparing the Strong, Unitite and Epikut designs with two surfaces was carried out in the shinbones of 24 rabbits; some of the authors work in SIN's research and development unit, and the company provided the implants and paid the publication fee. This does not invalidate the result, but an animal study and a study with manufacturer involvement should not be given the same weight as independent long-term follow-up in humans. SIN states that it carries out its research together with institutions such as the University of São Paulo, New York University and Chalmers in Sweden.

It is also important to read correctly the policy the manufacturer calls a 'lifetime warranty'. According to SIN's own statement, implants are covered for life and prosthetic parts for five years; but the warranty covers only the replacement of a defective product, and does not cover any service or cost related to treatment. What is more, the policy applies to customers who buy the product directly from SIN or from its authorised distributor; that customer is not the patient but the dentist or clinic that buys the product. The claim is also made by the dentist, who fills in the warranty form and sends evidence such as photos and X-rays.

Even so, the brand is the smaller half of the question. SIN's lines are conventional two-piece implants: they sit in the inner part of the bone and need enough volume there. The implant used in our protocol of fixed teeth in 72 hours with the Ihde method belongs to a different class: a one-piece corticobasal implant that anchors in the hard outer layer of the jaw. Which one suits you is decided by the bone on your CBCT scan.

When a conventional system like SIN is a sensible choice

The criteria below do not depend on the name of the line; they look at the conventional two-piece implant design and can be discussed at your consultation.

When it fits

  • If there is enough bone and time is not an issueA conventional implant needs width and height in the inner part of the bone. If the volume is there and it is possible to wait for the implant to fuse, this design is a well-established option.
  • If the line and connection are written down from the startIf you see a full description in the quote, such as 'Strong SW CM' or 'Epikut HE', it means you have from the outset the information needed to find parts later.
  • If immediate loading will be based on measurementEpikut is a line promoted for immediate loading. Tying the decision to load on the same day to the anchorage measured during placement shows that the plan is transparent.
  • If the product comes through an authorised channelThe manufacturer's warranty policy applies to products bought from an authorised distributor. That is why asking where the clinic gets the product from is a legitimate question.

When it doesn't

  • If there is advanced bone resorptionIf there is no volume left to anchor in, a conventional implant often needs a graft or a sinus procedure first, and treatment stretches over months. In this situation, zygomatic implants or corticobasal implants that use the hard outer layer of the bone should also be discussed.
  • If you are not told the connection typeThe same line can be CM, HE or HI. If these letters are not written down, the dentist who works in that mouth later on will be guessing from an X-ray when choosing parts.
  • If the 'lifetime warranty' is presented as a guarantee on the treatmentThe manufacturer's warranty covers replacing the part, not the cost of treatment. What will be done if an implant does not take is a commitment the clinic needs to give you separately, in writing.
  • If price is the only reason for the choicePrice is a legitimate criterion, but on its own it says nothing about whether the implant suits your mouth. Suitability is read from a CBCT scan.

Five questions to ask when SIN is recommended

They are short questions, but their answers put on record today the information that will be useful to you years from now.

  1. 1

    Which line will be used?

Epikut, Unitite, Strong SW, Tryon or Lite. It should be possible to explain the choice in terms of the density, width and height of your bone.

  2. 2

Is the connection CM, HE or HI?

Cone Morse, external hex or internal hex. The top parts, and every future repair, depend on this answer; the same line name can refer to three different connections.

  3. 3

    Which surface?

Double acid-etched (DAA), or 'Plus' with a hydroxyapatite layer? They are two separate products of the same line; your card should say which one was used.

  4. 4

Can I see the barcode on the label?

Medical devices put on the market in Turkey must be registered in the Product Tracking System (ÜTS). The number on the label shows the product's manufacturer and its registration.

  5. 5

Where do parts come from, and how long do they take?

The manufacturer's website lists Core Medikal as its distributor in Turkey. Ask whether the clinic has parts in stock and, if not, how long it takes to obtain them.

Things that make more difference than the name of the line

If the first four points below are in place, the difference between brands narrows; if they are not, no brand makes up for the gap.

01

A complete record

Line name, connection type, surface, diameter, length, lot number and the area where it was placed. If you have this information, another dentist can pick up the work where it was left off.

02

Supply of parts

With a system that is less widespread in Turkey, finding the part for a loose screw can take time. Stock at the clinic and access to the distributor should be discussed in advance.

03

The dentist's experience with that line

A team that uses the same line regularly knows its drilling sequence, its torque values and its typical problems. This experience is more decisive than most of the differences between two brands.

04

A plan based on a CBCT scan

The number, position and angle of the implants are decided on a three-dimensional image. Being shown the plan and having its reasoning explained is something to ask about before the brand.

05

If the loss extends to more than one tooth

If you are missing several teeth, or you have been told there is not enough bone, you can send us the panoramic X-ray or CBCT scan you have through the form. The dentist who will carry out the treatment reads the image, and we will write to you within 24 hours. This is a preliminary assessment; the final decision is made after an examination and a CBCT scan.

What often gets mixed up about SIN

When a brand is less well known, shortcuts and guesswork multiply online.

"SIN is a Chinese or Korean brand"

It is not. S.I.N. Implant System was founded in 2003 in the Brazilian city of São Paulo, and its factory is there. The name also sometimes gets mixed up with searches for sinus implants; the two are separate subjects.

"SIN is a sub-brand of Neodent"

Both are Brazilian, but they have different owners: Neodent belongs to the Straumann group, while SIN has belonged to Henry Schein since 2023.

"A Strong SW part fits every Strong SW"

Strong SW is made separately with CM, HE and HI connections. Parts are chosen not by line name but by line, connection, diameter and length.

"A lifetime warranty is a lifetime guarantee on the treatment"

The manufacturer's warranty is limited to replacing a defective product and does not cover services or costs related to treatment. Clinician error and improper use are also excluded.

"A cheap implant is a bad implant"

Country of origin and price are not measures of quality on their own. What to look at is the documentation, access to parts, the dentist's experience, and who carried out the published research behind it, and in what model.

What you should have if SIN implants have been fitted

Nobody asks for these documents today; but years from now, in another dentist's chair, they will be the first thing you are asked for.

  1. An implant card with the line and connection

The card should say more than just 'SIN': it should give the full description, such as 'Strong SW HE' or 'Epikut CM', together with the surface type, diameter, length and lot number. If anything is missing, ask the clinic that carried out the treatment to complete it.

  2. The measured values

If immediate loading was carried out, the insertion torque and stability values. If a problem is being discussed later, these are the only record showing what the initial anchorage was.

  3. A copy of the barcode

The barcode on the product label carries the number that identifies the implant in ÜTS. When a claim is made under the manufacturer's warranty, this is also the information that proves the product's identity.

  4. The X-ray from the first day

The X-ray that shows where your bone level was at the start. The manufacturer's warranty form also asks for evidence such as X-rays; only with it can a comparison be made with an X-ray taken years later.

Don't wait if

  • A tooth moves or a screw feels loose. Carrying on chewing with a loose screw can break the screw. Tightening a screw early is a small job; removing a broken one is laborious.
  • There is bleeding, swelling or a bad smell around the implant. Inflammation around an implant often progresses without causing pain. Caught early, it can be stopped; regaining bone that has been lost is much harder.
  • A part has broken. Do not throw the broken part away; take it to the clinic. A warranty claim to the manufacturer is made with evidence such as a photo of the part and X-rays, and the assessment can take up to 30 days.
  • You do not know which connection was fitted. Call the clinic that carried out the treatment and ask for your record. If there is no record, the dentist will try to identify the system from an X-ray, but telling apart the connection types of the same line can take time.

How choosing SIN shows up in the quote

The implant's country does not explain the difference in a quote on its own. The total is made up of these items:

Line, connection and surface
Within the same brand, lines and surface options can differ in cost. The quote should give the full description; the phrase 'SIN implant' is not enough on its own.
Top parts
Ready-made parts, patient-specific parts or parts for a multi-unit prosthesis make more difference than the implant body in most plans.
The prosthesis and laboratory work
In full-mouth plans, the material and workmanship of the bridgework make up most of the total. This is the last place where savings should be made.
Preparatory procedures and later maintenance
A graft, a sinus procedure or extractions are separate items. Because the manufacturer's warranty does not cover treatment costs, who covers the work if a problem arises should also be discussed in the quote.

Frequently asked questions

Which country are SIN implants from?

Brazil. S.I.N. Implant System was founded in São Paulo in 2003, and its factory is also there. Since 2023 it has been part of the American Henry Schein group.

Who owns SIN, and what is Henry Schein?

Henry Schein is an American company that distributes dental and medical products. In 2023 it announced that it had signed an agreement to buy SIN from Southern Cross Group. SIN joined the company's implant group, which also includes BioHorizons and Camlog.

Are SIN and Neodent the same?

No. Both are Brazilian manufacturers, but Neodent belongs to the Swiss Straumann group and SIN to Henry Schein. Their parts are not interchangeable.

What is the difference between Epikut, Unitite and Strong SW?

According to the manufacturer's descriptions, Epikut is the line promoted for immediate loading, soft bone and extraction sockets; Unitite is the line with narrow and short options, offered with a hydroxyapatite-layer surface; and Strong SW is the broad family made with three separate connections and recommended for every bone density. Which one suits you depends on your bone.

What does Cone Morse mean?

It is the name Brazilian manufacturers use for a conical internal connection. On SIN cards it appears as the abbreviation CM. The external hex is written as HE and the internal hex as HI; the three do not take the same part.

Do SIN implants have a lifetime warranty?

The manufacturer states a lifetime warranty for implants and five years for prosthetic parts. But this covers replacing a defective product; it does not cover services and costs related to treatment. The policy applies to dentists and clinics that buy the product from SIN or its authorised distributor, and the claim is made by the dentist. The manufacturer also states that it may change the policy.

Are SIN implants available in Turkey, and how can I tell they are genuine?

The manufacturer's website lists Core Medikal as its distributor in Turkey. To check that a product is genuine, ask to see the barcode on the label of the product that will be used: medical devices put on the market in Turkey must be registered in ÜTS. The same information should also appear on your implant card.

Are SIN implants any good?

It is one of Brazil's large manufacturers and has been making implants for more than twenty years. When reading its publications, read the model and the conflict of interest statement together: some studies are carried out in animals and with contributions from company employees. The outcome, however, is determined more strongly by planning, load distribution, smoking, diabetes control and maintenance than by the brand.

Do you use SIN?

Our protocol of fixed teeth in 72 hours works with a different class of implant: one-piece corticobasal implants that anchor in the hard outer layer of the jaw. This is not an assessment of conventional systems such as SIN; if there is enough bone and time to wait, they are a sensible choice too. Which one suits you becomes clear from a CBCT scan.
