Which country are MegaGen implants from?

MegaGen Co., Ltd. was founded in South Korea on 3 January 2002, with Kwang-Bum Park as its chairman. In 2003 the company received a medical device manufacturing licence from Korea's food and drug authority, and in 2005 it added the ISO 9001 and 13485 quality certificates. Its head office and factory are in the city of Daegu; it also has a branch building in Seoul called MegaGen Tower, which opened in 2013. In 2018 it opened a new factory.

Its first products were systems such as ExFeel, Intermezzo, Rescue and EZ Plus, which received FDA approval in the USA and CE marking in Europe between 2005 and 2008. The two names people search for most today came later: AnyRidge was introduced in 2009, and AnyOne was launched in April 2012 together with the Xpeed surface, which contains calcium ions. AnyRidge and AnyOne were also approved in China in 2019. The company states that its network reaches more than a hundred countries.

On the question of which country, the origin, the head office and the founder all point to the same place: South Korea. The factory address on the company's website is also in Daegu; according to a report by Anadolu Agency dated 26 February 2024, however, the company decided to set up its first production facility outside Korea in Istanbul. On the ownership side, there is a detail that often gets mixed up. The Swiss company Straumann bought convertible bonds from MegaGen in 2014 and 2015, and a supplementary agreement with the main shareholders gave it the right to buy enough shares to reach a controlling stake. In July 2016 Straumann sought to exercise these rights; MegaGen disputed the price calculation and went to international arbitration. In February 2017 Straumann announced that it was abandoning the partnership, and the bonds were repaid in cash with interest. In other words, unlike Neodent, MegaGen is not a Straumann Group brand.

MegaGen is not a single implant but a family. AnyOne, as the manufacturer describes it, is a simplified system that uses a single prosthetic platform across all body sizes and an 11-degree internal hex connection; it comes in several body designs for different bone densities. AnyRidge is the line whose blade-shaped KnifeThread threads aim for high initial anchorage in every bone density and in different jaw ridge shapes; it is promoted for immediate placement, immediate loading and short implants. ARi has a 10-degree external conical hex connection. BlueDiamond, ST, MiNi and Advanced Intermezzo are also lines from the same company.

Because of this variety, knowing 'I have MegaGen' is not enough for a repair. An AnyOne with an internal hex connection and an ARi with an external conical hex will not take the same top part. The names people type into Google, such as 'anyone implant' or 'anyridge', are in fact the line names that should be on your record; alongside the line, your card should also give the diameter, length and lot number.

The manufacturer itself explains how to read the promise of immediate loading. Its AnyRidge page states that, as a guideline threshold for immediate functional loading, a stability measurement known as ISQ should be at least 60 and the insertion torque at least 45 Ncm. In other words, loading on the same day is not a decision made for every implant; it depends on the anchorage measured on that day. Asking whether these values were measured in your mouth and put on record is a normal request.

The factual answer to 'is it any good' is that it is a system that has been produced for more than twenty years, is approved in several countries and has published clinical data behind it. When reading the publications, it helps to look at one detail. In a study published in 2026 that followed 117 ARi implants placed in the front of the mouth for one year, 114 of the 117 implants were still in place; the article's conflict of interest statement notes that the authors included the company's founder and employees. This does not invalidate the result; but a study with manufacturer involvement should not be given the same weight as an independent one. A one-year follow-up, on its own, says nothing about how long implants last either.

MegaGen's product range is not limited to implants: it also offers regenerative materials such as bone grafts and membranes, the MEGA ISQ device for measuring implant stability, a dental treatment unit, a laser system and a digital guided surgery solution called R2GATE, announced in 2012.

Even so, the brand is the smaller half of the question: planning, how the load is spread, smoking, diabetes control and regular maintenance determine the outcome more strongly. Most of MegaGen's lines are conventional two-piece implants; the implant used in our protocol of fixed teeth in 72 hours with the Ihde method belongs to a different class: a one-piece corticobasal implant that anchors in the hard outer layer of the jaw.

The criteria below do not depend on the name of the line; they look at the conventional two-piece implant design and can be discussed at your consultation.

They are short questions, but their answers put on record today the information that will be useful to you years from now.

   Which line will be used?

   AnyOne, AnyRidge, ARi, BlueDiamond or ST. It should be possible to explain the choice in terms of the density, width and height of your bone.

   What type of connection?

   An internal hex, an external conical hex or another connection? The top parts, and every future repair, depend on this answer.

   If there is immediate loading, will ISQ and torque be measured?

   For immediate loading with AnyRidge, the manufacturer gives an ISQ of at least 60 and a torque of at least 45 Ncm as guideline thresholds. You can ask for the measured values to be written into your record.

   Can I see the barcode on the label?

   Medical devices put on the market in Turkey must be registered in the Product Tracking System (ÜTS). The number on the label shows the product's manufacturer and its registration.

   Where do parts come from, and how long do they take?

   The manufacturer has a local company in Istanbul called Megagen Implant A.S. Ask whether the clinic has parts in stock and, if not, how long it takes to obtain them.

If the first four points below are in place, the difference between lines and brands narrows; if they are not, no line name makes up for the gap.

The sheer number of line names and an old partnership story produce a few misleading shortcuts online.

Nobody asks for these documents today; but years from now, in another dentist's chair, they will be the first thing you are asked for.

1. An implant card with the name of the line

   The card should say more than just 'MegaGen': it should give the line name, such as AnyOne, AnyRidge or ARi, together with the diameter, length and lot number. If anything is missing, ask the clinic that carried out the treatment to complete it.

2. The measured values

   If immediate loading was carried out, the insertion torque and ISQ values. If a problem is being discussed later, these are the only record showing what the initial anchorage was.

3. A copy of the barcode

   The barcode on the product label carries the number that identifies the implant in ÜTS. Keep it together with your card.

4. The X-ray from the first day

   The X-ray that shows where your bone level was at the start. Only with it can any change be read when it is compared with an X-ray taken years later.

The implant's country does not explain the difference in a quote on its own. The total is made up of these items:

Choice of line and body

Within the same brand, the lines can differ in cost. Check which line is written in the quote; the phrase 'MegaGen implant' is not enough on its own.

Top parts

Ready-made parts, patient-specific parts or parts for a multi-unit prosthesis make more difference than the implant body in most plans.

The prosthesis and laboratory work

In full-mouth plans, the material and workmanship of the bridgework make up most of the total. This is the last place where savings should be made.

Preparatory procedures and later maintenance

A graft, a sinus procedure or extractions are separate items. The burden of repairs over the years depends on how easily parts can be obtained.
