Implant Brands

Which country are Adin implants from?

Israel, Afula; a manufacturer that describes itself as independent, with no announcement of a sale to a large group. The publications about it, though, say more about the surgery than about the brand

The Adin name usually appears in a quote or on an implant card together with the name of a line: Touareg, UniFit, CloseFit. The answer to the country question is short. The information that will really be useful to you, though, is which line was fitted, with which connection, and what the studies carried out with the brand actually measured.

Short answer

Adin is an Israeli brand: the head office and manufacturing address of Adin Dental Implant Systems Ltd. are in the city of Afula in northern Israel, in the Alon Tavor industrial zone. The company's website gives 2001 as the year it was founded and describes Adin as an 'independent' implant manufacturer; there is no announcement of it having been sold to a large international implant group. Its well-known lines are Touareg S and OS, Swell, Triple, CloseFit, UniFit and zygomatic implants.

Who Adin is, and where it comes from

Adin Dental Implant Systems Ltd. is an Israeli company. The contact page on its own website gives its head office address as the Alon Tavor industrial zone in Afula; the manufacturer's address is the same in the 2023 UniFit submission to the FDA, the US food and drug agency. The company's first record with the FDA dates from 2008; that submission was made through an Israeli medical device consultancy. The contact page lists its subsidiaries in India, the USA and Canada and an office in Tel Aviv.

The sources diverge on the year it was founded. The company's own 'About Us' page says 2001; some start-up databases give an earlier date. Here the company's own statement has been taken as the basis. On the ownership side, Adin presents itself as a company 'on the way to becoming the world's leading independent implant manufacturer'. There is no official announcement of Adin having been sold to a large implant group; its website does not mention a parent company either.

This is why the answer to the question of which country has a single layer: the origin, the head office and the manufacturing address reported to the FDA are all in Israel. The company writes that it has certified its quality system under the European Union's Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and the ISO 13485 standard. Even so, the manufacturer and registration of a single implant that reaches you are shown most definitely by the label and barcode on its box.

Adin is not a single implant but several connection families. The Internal Hex family includes Touareg S and OS, which the company calls its 'most popular', the parallel-bodied Swell and the triple-lead threaded Triple. CloseFit is the family with a conical hex connection; it also includes a narrow 3.0 mm option. UniFit is a newer line that uses a single prosthetic platform across all diameters and has what the manufacturer describes as a 7-degree Morse taper friction-fit connection; it was cleared by the FDA in December 2023. Added to these are zygomatic implants and a guided surgery system called Adinguide.

The detail of the material is as noteworthy as the name of the line. According to the UniFit summary submitted to the FDA, these implants and their top parts are made not of grade 4 pure titanium but of a titanium alloy called Ti-6Al-4V ELI; their surfaces are treated with a calcium phosphate blasting called OsseoFix. The same document writes that immediate loading can be carried out when good initial anchorage is achieved and the bite load is adjusted appropriately, and that the short 6 mm UniFit implants should be used only with straight top parts.

The honest answer to 'how much has it been studied' is this: the Adin name does appear in publications, but most are small or laboratory studies. In a study in which a team from India and Saudi Arabia followed 60 Touareg-S implants in 42 patients for one year, the annual bone loss around implants placed sunk below the bone level was found to be 1.96 mm on average, and 1.10 mm for those placed at bone level. In other words, the same brand, the same line, the same team: deeper placement was seen together with more bone loss. The study is small and it is not stated that the groups were allocated at random; but it shows well that the surgery speaks before the brand does.

In another study, carried out in India, three surgeons placed 45 Touareg implants in 42 patients with a hand wrench that does not measure torque; when it was checked at the final moment with a wrench that does measure, the mean torque applied turned out to be 63 Ncm, well above the 35 Ncm that was intended. The study did not measure whether this torque harmed the implant. But it does show this: insertion torque should be applied by measuring, not by guesswork, and should be put on record. Long-term, large patient follow-ups carried out with Adin, meanwhile, are limited.

Adin's lines are conventional two-piece implants that sit inside the bone, and they need sufficient volume in the bone; the zygomatic implants, however, are a special group that anchors in the cheekbone. The outcome is determined by planning, how the load is spread, smoking and diabetes control and regular maintenance more than by the brand name. The implant used in our protocol of fixed teeth in 72 hours with the Ihde method belongs to a different class: a one-piece corticobasal implant that anchors in the hard outer layer of the jaw.

When a conventional system like Adin is a sensible choice

The points below are not specific to Adin alone; they look at the two-piece implant design that sits inside the bone.

When it fits

  • If the CBCT scan shows enough boneA conventional implant needs width and height in the inner part of the bone. If the volume is there, it can be placed without any additional procedure; the 3.0 mm CloseFit is offered for narrow areas and 6 mm options for limited bone height.
  • If immediate loading will be based on measurementThe document submitted to the FDA makes immediate loading conditional on good initial anchorage and an appropriate bite load. If the insertion torque is going to be measured and put on your record, the plan is transparent.
  • If you already have Adin in your mouthContinuing with the same connection family keeps your inventory of parts simple. But first it has to be known for certain whether the existing implant is Internal Hex, CloseFit or UniFit.
  • If budget shapes the plan and the plan is based on measurementAdin describes itself as a manufacturer offering high-quality but affordable solutions. If bone, load and maintenance have been discussed properly, a system in this position can be a reasonable choice.

When it doesn't

  • If there is advanced bone resorptionIf there is no volume left to anchor in, a conventional implant often needs a graft or a sinus procedure first, and treatment stretches over months. In this situation, a different class of implant that uses the hard outer layer of the bone should also be discussed.
  • If you are not told the connection familyInternal Hex, CloseFit and UniFit are different connections. Saying 'we fitted Adin' is not a record; if the family, line, diameter and length are not written down, the dentist who works in that mouth later on will be proceeding by guesswork.
  • If the insertion torque is not going to be measuredIt has been shown that torque applied without measuring can rise well above the target. If immediate loading is being discussed, a firm promise made without any measurement suggests that the plan is being rushed.
  • If price is the only reason for the choicePrice is a legitimate criterion, but on its own it says nothing about whether the implant suits your mouth. Suitability is read from a CBCT scan and an examination.

Five questions to ask when Adin is recommended

They are short questions. If the answers are clear, there is a considered choice behind the plan; every answer that stays vague is a gap you will have to fill in later.

  1. 1

    Which family and which line?

Touareg, Swell or Triple from the Internal Hex family; CloseFit; or UniFit? It should be possible to explain the choice in terms of the density, width and height of your bone.

  2. 2

How deep will the implant be placed?

At bone level or below it? In a small study carried out with Touareg-S, more bone loss was seen over one year in implants placed below the bone level. Asking for the reason is a normal request.

  3. 3

Will the insertion torque be measured?

You can ask for the torque applied with a measuring device and, if there is one, the stability measurement to be written into your record. The decision on immediate loading should be based on these values.

  4. 4

Can I see the barcode on the label?

Medical devices put on the market in Turkey must be registered in the Product Tracking System (ÜTS). The number on the label shows the product's manufacturer and its registration.

  5. 5

What does the manufacturer's warranty cover?

Adin announces a lifetime replacement warranty for the implants it manufactures. That text is about the implant itself; ask the clinic separately who will cover new surgery, labour or renewal of the prosthesis.

Things that make more difference than the brand

The studies carried out with Adin are consistent with this too: within the same brand, the outcome can differ according to surgical decisions.

01

Placement depth and angle

Where the implant sits in relation to the bone edge can affect the course of the surrounding bone in the first years. This decision is made with a CBCT scan and an examination.

02

Measured anchorage

Insertion torque and stability are known by measurement. The decision on immediate loading should be based on this measurement, not on the brand name.

03

A complete record

Family, line, platform, diameter, length, lot number and the area where it was placed. If you have this information, another dentist can pick up the work where it was left off.

04

Supply of parts

Being able to get hold of the system in the country where you live keeps a loose screw a small job. Ask whether the clinic has stock and how long supply takes.

05

If the loss extends to more than one tooth

If you are missing several teeth, or you have been told there is not enough bone, you can send us the panoramic X-ray or CBCT scan you have through the form. The dentist who will carry out the treatment reads the image, and we will write to you within 24 hours. This is a preliminary assessment; the final decision is made after an examination and a CBCT scan.

What often gets mixed up about Adin

Several line names and Israel's crowded implant sector produce a few misleading shortcuts online.

"Adin is another name for MIS or Alpha-Bio"

All three are separate companies that came out of Israel. The address Adin reported to the FDA is Afula; the company is a brand of neither MIS nor Alpha-Bio. Their parts do not automatically fit one another either.

"Touareg is a separate brand"

Touareg is one of the lines in Adin's internal hex connection family and the company's most widely used implant. Because searches mention the line name rather than the brand, it can be mistaken for a separate company.

"All Adin parts fit one another"

Internal Hex, CloseFit and UniFit are separate connection families. Parts are chosen not by brand name but by family, line, platform, diameter and length.

"A dentist who looks at the X-ray can tell the brand straight away"

When 50 dentists in India were asked to identify ten different implant systems from X-rays, accuracy stayed between 27 and 49 per cent. If you do not have the record, working out the brand from an X-ray is not as easy as people think.

"A lifetime warranty means everything is covered if the implant fails"

The manufacturer's announcement speaks of replacing the implant that Adin manufactured. Items such as new surgery, a graft or renewal of the prosthesis are not the subject of this announcement; the clinic's own terms are a separate matter.

What you should have if Adin implants have been fitted

Nobody asks for these documents today; but years from now, in another dentist's chair, they will be the first thing you are asked for.

  1. An implant card with the family and the line

The card should say more than just 'Adin': it should give the Internal Hex, CloseFit or UniFit family, the line name, the platform, the diameter, the length and the lot number. If anything is missing, ask the clinic that carried out the treatment to complete it.

  2. The measured values

The insertion torque and, if there is one, the stability measurement. If a problem is being discussed later, these are the only record showing what the initial anchorage was.

  3. A copy of the barcode

The barcode on the product label carries the number that identifies the implant in ÜTS. If the manufacturer's warranty comes up, this is also the first piece of information that will be asked for.

  4. The X-ray from the first day

The X-ray that shows where the bone level and the depth of the implant were at the start. Only with it can any change be read when it is compared with an X-ray taken years later.

Don't wait if

  • If a tooth moves or a screw feels loose. Carrying on chewing with a loose screw can break the screw. Tightening a screw early is a small job; removing a broken one is laborious.
  • If there is bleeding, swelling or a bad smell around the implant. Inflammation around an implant often progresses without causing pain. Caught early, it can be stopped; regaining bone that has been lost is much harder. If the swelling is spreading quickly, is accompanied by a fever, or swallowing and breathing become difficult, do not wait: call 112 or go to the nearest A&E department.
  • If you do not know which family was fitted. Call the clinic that carried out the treatment and ask for your record. If there is no record, an attempt will be made to identify the system from an X-ray, but telling apart the connection families of the same brand can take time.
  • Before you move or go on a long journey. Take your card, your measured values and your X-rays with you. If a part is needed where you are going, the family and size details make it possible to order it straight away.

How choosing Adin shows up in the quote

Adin positions itself as an affordable manufacturer; but the name of the implant does not determine the difference in a quote on its own. The total is made up of these items:

Choice of line and body
Within the same brand, the families and lines can differ in cost. Check which line is written in the quote; the phrase 'Adin implant' is not enough on its own.
Top parts and the prosthesis
Ready-made parts, patient-specific production or parts for a multi-unit prosthesis, together with the material and workmanship of the bridgework, make up most of the total in full-mouth plans.
Preparatory procedures
If a graft, a sinus procedure or extractions are needed, these are separate items and are common in conventional plans. They also lengthen the treatment.
The scope of the warranty and repairs over the years
What the manufacturer replaces is the implant itself; labour and retreatment are discussed separately. With a system whose parts are easy to find, a repair stays a small job.

Frequently asked questions

Which country are Adin implants from?

Israel. The head office of Adin Dental Implant Systems Ltd. is in the Alon Tavor industrial zone in Afula, and this is also the manufacturer's address reported to the FDA. The company gives 2001 as the year it was founded.

Who owns Adin implants?

Adin is a private company and describes itself as an independent implant manufacturer. There is no official announcement of it having been sold to a large international implant group.

Are Adin and MIS or Alpha-Bio the same company?

No. All three are separate companies that came out of Israel; their lines, connections and parts are separate. Adin's address is Afula.

Which brand does the Touareg implant belong to?

Adin. Touareg S and OS are lines in Adin's internal hex connection family and, in the company's own words, its most popular implant.

What is Adin UniFit?

Adin's newer line: a single prosthetic platform across all diameters and what the manufacturer describes as a 7-degree conical friction-fit connection. It was cleared by the FDA in December 2023; according to the FDA summary, it is made of a titanium alloy and has a calcium phosphate blasted surface.

Are Adin implants any good?

It is a manufacturer that says it is certified under the EU MDR and ISO 13485 and whose products have been cleared by the FDA. But the publications carried out with Adin are mostly small and short-term; long-term, large patient follow-up is limited. Even in these studies, the outcome changed along with surgical decisions such as placement depth.

What does the lifetime warranty on Adin implants mean?

The manufacturer announces that it undertakes to replace the implants it manufactures for life. This concerns the implant itself; ask separately whether the clinic's own terms cover new surgery, labour or renewal of the prosthesis.

How can I tell that an Adin implant is genuine?

Ask to see the barcode on the label of the product that will be used. Medical devices put on the market in Turkey must be registered in the Product Tracking System; that number shows the product's manufacturer. The same information should also be on your implant card.

Do you use Adin?

Our protocol of fixed teeth in 72 hours works with a different class of implant: one-piece corticobasal implants that anchor in the hard outer layer of the jaw. This is not an assessment of conventional systems such as Adin; if there is enough bone and time to wait, they are a sensible choice too. Which one suits you is shown by a CBCT scan.
